Throughout the group presentations in this course, I gained a deeper understanding of what effective public speaking looks like in practice, as well as how challenging it can be to communicate ideas clearly in front of an audience. Each group approached their presentation differently, and observing these differences helped me recognize how organization, delivery, and audience engagement all play an important role in the success of a speech. Overall, every group demonstrated effort, preparation, and a willingness to participate, which made the presentation experience both educational and engaging. One thing I noticed right away was how important organization is. Some groups started their presentation with a clear introduction and explained what they were going to talk about. When groups did this, it was much easier to understand their topic and stay focused. Other groups did not explain their topic right away, which made their presentation a little confusing at first. This showed me that having a strong introduction is very important in public speaking.Transitions between speakers were also important in group presentations. Groups that practiced switching speakers sounded more confident and prepared. When one person finished and another person started smoothly, the presentation felt more professional. Some groups had awkward pauses or were unsure about who was supposed to talk next. This did not ruin the presentation, but it did make it feel less organized. Watching this helped me understand how important teamwork and practice are in group presentations. Many groups used slides or visual aids during their presentation. When slides were simple and easy to read, they helped explain the topic better. Slides with pictures or short bullet points were the most helpful. However, some groups put too much text on their slides and read directly from them. When this happened, it made the presentation less interesting. It taught me that slides should support the speaker, not do all the talking for them. The way people spoke during their presentations was one of the most noticeable differences between groups. Some speakers were very confident and spoke clearly. They made eye contact with the audience and did not rush their words. These speakers were easy to listen to and made their presentations more interesting. Other speakers were clearly nervous, which is normal in public speaking. Some spoke very fast, looked down a lot, or used filler words like “um” and “like.” Even so, many of these speakers got better as the presentation went on, which showed that confidence can improve over time.Overall, every group had strengths and weaknesses, but each presentation helped show different parts of public speaking. Some groups were better at organizing their ideas, while others were stronger in delivery or confidence. Watching these presentations helped me learn what works well and what could be improved.Seeing my classmates present also made me think about my own public speaking skills. I realized that it is okay to be nervous and that practice really does help. The presentations showed me that public speaking is not about being perfect, but about trying your best and improving over time.
